Alignment for heavy-duty trucks is all about making sure the wheels and suspension system are properly adjusted so that the vehicle can drive straight and handle properly. It’s important to have the alignment checked and adjusted regularly, as uneven tire wear, steering problems, and other issues can arise if the alignment is off.
When we align a heavy-duty truck, we use special tools to measure the angles of the wheels and suspension components. We check things like the camber, which is the angle at which the wheels sit vertically; the toe, which is the angle at which the wheels point inwards or outwards; and the caster, which is the angle of the steering axis. We make adjustments as needed to bring these angles back to factory specifications.
Most manufacturers recommend getting your alignment checked and adjusted on a heavy-duty truck once every 12,000 to 20,000 miles or at least once a year. However, if you notice any of the following symptoms, it may be a good idea to have your alignment checked sooner:
