Calling & Scheduling

Who answers, when, and what to have ready.

Contact the shop
What is Superior Truck & Trailer's phone number?

(502) 789-6644. That one number reaches dispatch, the shop and the mobile trucks, 24 hours a day.

Is someone there at night and on weekends?

Yes, for emergencies. The shop on Bishop Lane is open Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and emergency road service runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so a breakdown at two in the morning still reaches a person. See 24/7 Mobile & Roadside Assistance.

Do you offer 24/7 roadside assistance for commercial trucks and trailers?

Yes. Call with the unit, the exact location and what happened, so the team can work out the right roadside response and whether the repair can be handled there or needs the shop.

What should I have ready when I call?

The unit number and what it is, where it sits including the road and direction of travel, what it is doing, whether it is loaded, and who pays. That is enough for dispatch to send the right truck.

Can I bring the truck in without an appointment?

Call first. A call tells you whether a bay is open and whether the job needs the shop at all, because a lot of it can be done at your yard by 24/7 Mobile & Roadside Assistance instead.

How do I know which service I need?

Start with the vehicle, the symptoms and where it is sitting. You do not need to diagnose it first. Tell us what the unit is doing, any warning lights or visible damage, and whether it is at the shop, at your location or down on the road.

Do you work with fleets as well as owner-operators?

Yes. Fleet service can include scheduled maintenance, inspections, repairs and mobile work, built around the vehicles and the work involved. See Preventative Maintenance.

About Superior
What types of commercial vehicles does Superior Truck & Trailer repair?

Superior repairs commercial trucks and trailers, along with the bus, RV, heavy equipment and specialty vehicle work shown on this site. The right service depends on the vehicle, the failed system, and whether the job belongs in the shop, on site or on a road call.

What truck and trailer repair services do you offer in Louisville, KY?

General diesel repair, 24/7 roadside assistance, DOT inspections, truck and trailer alignment, welding and fabrication, and the other fleet and specialty services listed on this site.

Can you repair trucks or trailers at my yard or job site?

Yes, for work that can be finished safely on site. Mobile repair comes to a fleet yard, job site or other suitable location. Repairs that need shop equipment, more room or a longer teardown come to Bishop Lane.

What areas do you serve for truck and trailer repair?

Louisville and the Central Kentucky and Southern Indiana counties shown on this page. Use the county and city list for the coverage map, and call to confirm a location when the service depends on dispatch or mobile travel.

What is Superior Truck & Trailer?

Superior Truck & Trailer is a Louisville-owned commercial truck and trailer repair company serving Central Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The business provides shop repair, mobile service, 24/7 roadside assistance, and the specialized services listed across this website.

Where is the shop?

3816 Bishop Lane #1, Louisville, KY 40218. Bishop Lane runs off Poplar Level Road just north of the Watterson Expressway, I-264, which puts the shop a short run from I-65 and I-64.

24/7 Mobile & Roadside Assistance

The questions people ask before booking 24/7 Mobile & Roadside Assistance.

See 24/7 Mobile & Roadside Assistance
Is roadside assistance available 24/7?

Yes. Superior Truck & Trailer offers 24/7 roadside assistance for truck and trailer breakdowns from its Louisville, KY operation. Call with the location and breakdown details so the team can start the road-service process.

What should I tell you when I call for roadside help?

Tell us your exact location, the truck or trailer involved, what happened, the symptoms or warning lights you can see, and whether the unit is safely out of the travel lane. Those details help the team prepare for the likely problem before dispatch.

What problems can be handled with roadside truck repair?

Roadside service can handle breakdowns that can be diagnosed and repaired safely at the location. The specific repair depends on the problem, the working conditions, and whether the job can be completed without shop equipment or a longer teardown.

What happens if the truck cannot be fixed on the shoulder?

If the truck or trailer cannot be repaired safely at the breakdown location, the service includes towing the unit to the Bishop Lane shop. The shop can then continue the repair with the space and equipment the job requires.

How far will Superior travel for a roadside call?

There is no set range limit for roadside assistance. Call with the exact location so the team can confirm dispatch details for that breakdown.

Can you help with trailer breakdowns too?

Yes. Superior Truck & Trailer provides roadside assistance for truck and trailer breakdowns. Whether the repair can be completed where the trailer sits depends on the issue, the location, and the work required.

Do I need to know what failed before I call?

No. Tell us what happened and what you can observe, including noises, warning lights, leaks, loss of power, or other symptoms. The breakdown-intake section on this page is designed to help narrow down what the road crew may need to bring.

Can I book a mobile repair instead of waiting for a breakdown?

Yes. Call Superior Truck & Trailer with the unit, the work you need and where it is parked, and a technician is scheduled to meet it at your yard, dock or job site. Booked mobile service and emergency road calls run from the same trucks and the same shop.

What work can be done at my yard instead of the shop?

Most service and running repairs: oil and fluid changes, brake work, tires, air lines, lights and wiring, diagnostics, DOT inspections and trailer repairs. Jobs needing a lift, more room or a longer teardown come to Bishop Lane, and the same team handles them there.

Where can I get 24/7 roadside truck repair near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides 24/7 roadside assistance from its Bishop Lane home base in Louisville, KY, and there is no set range limit. Call with the breakdown location and unit details to get the road call started.

Trailer Repair

The questions people ask before booking Trailer Repair.

See Trailer Repair
Do you repair trailers without the tractor?

Yes. A trailer can be dropped at the Bishop Lane shop in Louisville, or a technician can come to the yard or dock where it sits. The trailer does not need a tractor attached for most work.

Does a trailer need its own annual DOT inspection?

Yes. Each segment of a combination vehicle needs its own annual inspection, so the tractor and the trailer are inspected separately. Superior performs the federal annual on trailers at the shop or at your yard, and repairs what fails in the same visit. See DOT Inspections.

Can you repair a reefer trailer?

Yes, the trailer and the refrigeration unit. Superior handles reefer bodies, doors, floors, brakes and running gear, and services the refrigeration unit itself.

Do you work on liftgates?

Yes. Hydraulics, pump motors, wiring and the frame the gate hangs from, on a trailer or a box truck.

Do you do trailer welding?

Yes. MIG, TIG and stick welding on steel, aluminum and stainless, including cracked crossmembers, torn mounts, frame repair and custom brackets built in house. See Welding & Fabrication.

My trailer will not hold air overnight. What is it?

Usually a gladhand seal, a chafed or cracked air line, or a leaking brake chamber diaphragm. With the system at full pressure and the engine off, the leak can be heard and the leak-down rate watched on the gauges.

What makes landing gear hard to crank?

A stripped or dry gearbox, a twisted cross shaft, or an inner leg that is bent or seized. If only one leg moves, the cross shaft or a coupler has usually let go.

How do I know if a kingpin is worn out?

It gets measured. The shank and head are checked against the wear limits, along with cracks at the base, squareness to the plate, and the condition of the upper coupler around it.

Why are my trailer tires wearing on one edge?

Usually trailer axle alignment. Trailer, tandem and tri-axle alignments set camber, toe and caster back to spec, which is what stops the scrubbing. See Truck & Trailer Alignment.

Can you fix trailer lights and ABS faults?

Yes. Seven-way cords and plugs, corroded grounds, chafed harnesses, marker and stop lamps, and ABS sensors, tone rings and the warning lamp. See Diagnostics & Electrical Repair.

Do you repair flatbeds and dry vans, or just one?

Both, along with reefers. The running gear, air system, lighting and frame work are the same across them, and the box work differs with the trailer.

Where can I get trailer repair near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer repairs trailers at 3816 Bishop Lane #1, Louisville, KY 40218, and on site across Central Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Call (502) 789-6644.

General Diesel Repair

The questions people ask before booking General Diesel Repair.

See General Diesel Repair
What types of diesel truck repairs do you handle?

Superior Truck & Trailer handles general diesel diagnostics, emissions system service, and engine-related repair for commercial trucks in Louisville, KY. Our work ranges from fault-code diagnosis and exhaust-smoke problems to emissions components, engine repairs, rebuilds, and available conversion options.

Can you diagnose a check engine light or diesel fault code?

Yes. We can diagnose warning lights and diesel fault codes to identify the system or component causing the problem before repair work begins. Codes are a starting point, so the truck still needs proper testing to confirm the cause.

What can black, white, or blue exhaust smoke mean?

Exhaust smoke color can point to different diesel engine, fuel, air, oil, or combustion problems. The smoke guide on this page explains common possibilities, but the truck should be diagnosed before a repair is chosen.

Do you service DPF, EGR, DEF, and SCR systems?

Yes. Superior Truck & Trailer services common diesel emissions and aftertreatment systems, including EGR, DOC, DPF, DEF dosing, and SCR-related components. The exact service depends on the fault, condition of the system, and what diagnostic testing shows.

Can you repair or rebuild a diesel engine?

Yes. The shop offers diesel engine repair and rebuild work, with available conversion options shown on this page. The recommended path depends on what failed, the condition of the engine, and the scope of work required.

How do you decide between repairing, rebuilding, or converting an engine?

The decision starts with diagnosis and the condition of the engine. The repair path can depend on the failed parts, extent of damage, overall engine condition, and which options are available for that truck.

Where can I get diesel truck repair near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides diesel truck repair at its Louisville, KY shop and serves trucks from the surrounding Kentucky and Southern Indiana counties. Call with the truck, symptoms, and any warning lights or codes so the team can help schedule the appropriate shop service.

Preventative Maintenance

The questions people ask before booking Preventative Maintenance.

See Preventative Maintenance
What is included in commercial truck preventive maintenance?

Commercial truck preventive maintenance is scheduled service that checks and services wear items before a failure forces the timing. The exact PM depends on the truck, mileage or hours, service history, manufacturer requirements, and the inspection and fluid items due for that unit.

How often should a commercial truck get preventive maintenance?

The right preventive-maintenance interval depends on the truck, mileage, engine hours, duty cycle, manufacturer schedule, and fleet maintenance plan. A single mileage interval should not be applied to every commercial vehicle, so the next PM should be based on the schedule that applies to that unit.

Can you perform preventive maintenance at my fleet yard?

Yes, eligible preventive maintenance can be scheduled at your yard when the work can be completed safely on site. If the PM requires shop equipment, more space, or work that is better handled in a bay, Superior can schedule the unit at the Louisville shop instead.

What fluids are checked or serviced during preventive maintenance?

The fluids checked or serviced depend on the truck and the maintenance that is due. The fluid module on this page shows examples such as engine oil and coolant, while the actual service should follow the correct fluid specification and interval for the vehicle.

Can preventive maintenance help reduce roadside breakdowns?

Preventive maintenance can help catch wear, leaks, service needs, and developing problems before they become an unscheduled breakdown, but it cannot prevent every failure. Its value is giving the fleet a scheduled chance to find and address issues before the road decides the timing.

Can you set up preventive maintenance for multiple fleet vehicles?

Yes. Superior Truck & Trailer can coordinate scheduled preventive maintenance for multiple fleet units. Share the vehicles, current service needs, and maintenance schedule so the work can be planned around the fleet instead of treating every PM as a separate last-minute visit.

What information should I have when I schedule a PM service?

Have the unit information, current mileage or hours when available, known maintenance due, and any symptoms or issues the driver has noticed. Service history is also helpful when available because it gives the shop a clearer picture of what has already been completed.

Where can I schedule commercial truck preventive maintenance near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides commercial truck and trailer preventive maintenance in Louisville, KY for fleets and working vehicles serving Central Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Call with the unit information and maintenance need so the team can help schedule the right shop or eligible mobile service.

DOT Inspections

The questions people ask before booking DOT Inspections.

See DOT Inspections
Do you perform annual DOT inspections?

Yes, for commercial trucks and trailers at the Louisville shop. If the inspection turns up repair items, the same shop can handle them. See DOT Inspections.

How often does a commercial truck need a DOT inspection?

Commercial vehicles subject to 49 CFR 396.17 must pass a periodic inspection at least once every 12 months. The vehicle must meet the federal minimum periodic inspection standards, and documentation of the current inspection must be available on the vehicle.

Does a trailer need its own annual DOT inspection?

Yes. Each segment of a combination vehicle is subject to the periodic inspection requirement when covered by the rule. That means the tractor, semitrailer, full trailer, and other covered segments are inspected on their own applicable 12-month cycle.

What does an annual DOT inspection check?

An annual DOT inspection checks the vehicle against the federal minimum periodic inspection standards for required safety systems and components. The inspection guide above breaks the check into fourteen areas so you can see what is reviewed and what can cause a failure.

Who can perform an annual DOT inspection?

A periodic DOT inspection must be performed by an inspector who meets the qualification requirements in 49 CFR 396.19. Those requirements cover the inspector's knowledge, ability to identify defective components, and qualifying experience or training.

What paperwork is required after a DOT inspection?

Documentation of the most recent periodic inspection must be kept on the vehicle, and the motor carrier must retain the inspection report for 14 months. FMCSA does not require one specific inspection form, but the documentation must contain the information required by the regulations.

What happens if the truck fails the annual DOT inspection?

A component that does not meet the periodic inspection standards must be repaired before it can pass that portion of the inspection. Superior Truck & Trailer also provides truck and trailer repair, so repair items found during the inspection can be addressed through the same shop when the needed service is available.

Does a current annual inspection prevent a roadside inspection?

No. A valid periodic inspection does not exempt a commercial motor vehicle from a roadside inspection by State or Federal inspectors. The annual inspection satisfies the periodic inspection requirement, while roadside inspections are a separate enforcement process.

Where can I schedule a DOT inspection near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer offers DOT inspections at its Louisville, KY shop for commercial trucks and trailers from the surrounding Kentucky and Southern Indiana counties. Call with the vehicle information and current inspection due date so the team can help schedule the inspection.

Truck & Trailer Alignment

The questions people ask before booking Truck & Trailer Alignment.

See Truck & Trailer Alignment
What does a truck alignment adjust?

A truck alignment measures and corrects wheel and axle angles so the unit tracks within the applicable specifications. Depending on the alignment type, the measurements can include steering-axle angles, axle position, and tracking relationships between axles.

What types of truck and trailer alignment do you do?

We do front-end, two-axle, three-axle, and trailer alignment. The correct alignment service depends on which axle group is out of position and whether the issue is on the truck, drive axles, or trailer.

How do I know my truck may need an alignment?

Uneven or rapid tire wear, pulling, an off-center steering wheel, or a unit that does not track straight can all point to an alignment problem. Those symptoms can also have other causes, so measuring the unit is the way to confirm whether alignment is actually the issue.

Do trailers need alignment too?

Yes. Trailer axles can need alignment when the trailer tracks off-center or shows tire wear that points to an axle-position problem. Superior Truck & Trailer includes trailer alignment among its alignment services.

Could uneven tire wear be something other than alignment?

Yes. Tire wear can also be influenced by inflation, tire condition, steering or suspension wear, and other mechanical issues. The tire-wear guide can help identify a pattern, but the truck or trailer still needs to be checked before choosing the repair.

How often should a commercial truck be aligned?

There is no single alignment mileage interval that fits every commercial truck. Alignment should be checked when the truck develops uneven tire wear or tracking symptoms, after related steering or suspension work, or according to the maintenance schedule used for that vehicle or fleet.

Can you fix worn parts found during an alignment?

Yes. Superior Truck & Trailer can handle related repair work when worn parts are found during the alignment process, based on the component and repair needed. Correcting worn components first may be necessary before the alignment can be set accurately.

Where can I get truck and trailer alignment near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides truck and trailer alignment at its Louisville, KY shop for commercial trucks and trailers from the surrounding Kentucky and Southern Indiana counties. Call with the unit type and the tire-wear or tracking problem you are seeing so the team can help schedule the right alignment service.

Welding & Fabrication

The questions people ask before booking Welding & Fabrication.

See Welding & Fabrication
What kind of welding do you do?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides MIG, TIG, and stick welding for truck and trailer work. The process used depends on the material, joint, access, thickness, and what the repair or fabrication job requires.

What metals can you weld?

Superior Truck & Trailer welds steel, aluminum, and stainless steel for truck and trailer repairs and fabrication. The material and condition of the part help determine the process and repair approach.

Can you repair a cracked or broken truck or trailer part?

Yes, when the part and repair are suitable for welding. The shop needs to see the material, damage, access, and how the component is used before confirming the repair method.

Can you fabricate a part that does not come off the shelf?

Yes. Custom fabrication can be used when a truck or trailer needs a component built to fit the application. The final build depends on the measurements, material, mounting points, and function the part needs to serve.

Can you build or repair custom bumpers?

Yes. Custom bumpers are one of the custom builds the shop handles. The shop can determine what can be repaired, reinforced, or built after reviewing the truck, the existing bumper or mounting points, and the requested fit.

How do you choose between MIG, TIG, and stick welding?

The welding process is chosen based on the material, thickness, joint design, access, and the repair or fabrication need. Different jobs call for different heat control, filler, and setup, so the process should match the work rather than be chosen by name alone.

Do I need measurements or drawings before I call?

No. Start by telling the shop what is broken or what needs to be built. Superior can tell you what measurements, photos, drawings, or other job information are needed before the work is scheduled.

Where can I get truck and trailer welding near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides truck and trailer welding and fabrication at its Louisville, KY shop for commercial trucks and trailers from the surrounding Kentucky and Southern Indiana counties. Call with the repair or fabrication need so the team can help determine the next step.

Heavy Equipment Repair

The questions people ask before booking Heavy Equipment Repair.

See Heavy Equipment Repair
What kinds of heavy equipment do you repair?

Superior Truck & Trailer repairs wreckers and recovery vehicles, bulldozers, forklifts, the diesel engines and generators that run them, and other supported work equipment. The exact repair depends on the machine, failed system, and condition found during diagnosis.

Can you repair heavy equipment on site?

Sometimes. Whether heavy equipment can be repaired where it sits depends on the machine, the repair, site access, and whether the work can be completed safely with the equipment available there. Call with the machine and location so the team can confirm the right service option. See 24/7 Mobile & Roadside Assistance.

Do you repair wrecker booms and structural damage?

Yes. Superior repairs structural damage on wrecker and recovery equipment, including boom cracks and breaks. The repair plan should be based on the actual damage and the requirements that apply to that machine. See Welding & Fabrication.

Do you service hydraulic systems on heavy equipment?

Yes. Superior Truck & Trailer services hydraulic problems on supported heavy equipment. The exact work depends on the failed component, the symptoms, and what inspection and testing show.

Can you diagnose diesel or mechanical problems on heavy equipment?

Yes. Heavy equipment repair can include diesel and mechanical diagnosis when those systems are part of the machine problem. The repair starts with the symptoms and testing so the failed component can be identified before parts or labor are committed. See General Diesel Repair.

Do you work on equipment fleets?

Yes. Repair and maintenance can be coordinated for supported equipment fleets, with scheduling and scope based on the number and types of machines involved. Call with the equipment list and work needed so the visit or shop schedule can be planned appropriately. See Preventative Maintenance.

Where can I get heavy equipment repair near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides heavy equipment repair in Louisville, KY for the machine types and repair work covered above. Call with the equipment type, symptoms, and what happened so the team can help schedule the right repair.

Bus Repair

The questions people ask before booking Bus Repair.

See Bus Repair
What kinds of bus repair do you handle?

Superior Truck & Trailer handles bus repair including air brake, air ride, diagnostic, inspection, and related mechanical work. The exact repair depends on the bus, symptoms, and what inspection or testing shows.

Can you repair bus air brakes?

Yes. Bus air brake service is one of the core repair areas at Superior. The repair should be based on the actual brake-system condition, wear, air loss, or fault found during inspection.

Can you repair an air ride or kneeling system problem?

Yes. Superior diagnoses and repairs bus air ride and kneeling-system problems. The shop needs to inspect the symptoms and system response before confirming which component or control needs attention.

What are signs a bus air ride system should be checked?

Uneven ride height, slow or incomplete kneeling, or an air system that does not respond normally are reasons to have the system inspected. Those symptoms can have more than one cause, so diagnosis should come before parts are replaced.

Can you diagnose a bus problem if I do not know what failed?

Yes. Start with the symptoms you are seeing, when they happen, and any warning lights or changes in braking, ride height, or operation. The shop can use that information as the starting point for inspection and diagnosis.

Do you offer preventive bus maintenance?

Yes. Superior offers planned inspection and maintenance work intended to catch developing problems before they become larger route issues. The exact maintenance scope should be matched to the bus and the work it is due for.

What information should I have when I schedule bus repair?

Have the bus information, the symptoms or maintenance need, any warning lights, and a short description of when the problem happens. That gives the shop a clearer starting point when the appointment is booked.

Where can I get bus repair near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides bus repair at its Louisville, KY shop for air brake, air ride, inspection, maintenance, and related bus service. Call with the bus information and the repair or maintenance need so the team can help schedule the right service.

RV Repair

The questions people ask before booking RV Repair.

See RV Repair
Why does an RV need heavy-duty repair?

Many motorhomes use heavy-duty chassis, drivetrain, braking, suspension, and electrical systems that are serviced more like a truck than a passenger vehicle. The right maintenance or repair still depends on the RV chassis, engine, components, mileage, and manufacturer requirements.

What if my RV will not start?

A no-start needs diagnosis before the cause can be confirmed. The checks shown above include the battery, alternator, ignition system, cold-temperature conditions, and related starting components, but testing should determine what actually failed. See Diagnostics & Electrical Repair.

How often should RV transmission fluid be serviced?

Superior flushes RV transmission fluid every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, along with transfer case fluid flushes and differential and axle housing fluid changes. Check it against the transmission or chassis manufacturer's schedule for your RV, since fluid type, mileage, heat, load and use can move the interval.

How often should I change RV oil and coolant?

Superior replaces RV engine oil every 12,000 miles and coolant every 45,000 miles. Check both against the engine and chassis manufacturer's schedule for your RV, since fluid specification, mileage, time and duty cycle can move the interval.

Do you install RV block heaters?

Yes. Block heater installation is one of the cold-weather starting services covered in the no-start guide above. Whether a block heater is appropriate depends on the engine, existing equipment, and the installation options available for that RV.

Can you build a maintenance plan for my RV?

Yes. Superior Truck & Trailer can help organize maintenance around the service intervals that apply to the RV's chassis, engine, drivetrain, mileage, age, and manufacturer schedule. The plan should be based on the actual vehicle rather than a generic RV interval. See Preventative Maintenance.

Where can I get heavy-duty RV repair near Louisville, KY?

Superior Truck & Trailer provides heavy-duty RV repair at its Louisville, KY shop for motorhomes from the surrounding Kentucky and Southern Indiana counties. Call with the RV information, mileage, symptoms, and maintenance or repair need so the team can help schedule the right shop service.
