The Trailer Is Half The Rig.It Fails On Its Own.
Brakes, axles, air lines, lights, landing gear, floors, doors and frames. Superior Truck & Trailer repairs the trailer at the Bishop Lane shop in Louisville, KY, or at the yard or dock where it is already parked, with or without a tractor attached.
Walk The Trailer, Front To Back.
Three zones carry everything that strands a trailer. Pick one and turn it: the front corner that holds it up, the running gear under it, and the box itself.
Landing gear holds a loaded trailer up on two legs and a gearbox. When it binds, bends or strips, the trailer cannot be dropped or picked up safely.
Dry Van, Reefer Or Flatbed.
Brakes, axles, air and lights are the same under all three. What changes is the box on top, and what else there is to go wrong.
The most common trailer in the yard, and the simplest. Everything that fails is structural, running gear, or the doors at the back.

What drivers and fleets sayafter the work is done
One shop for the truck, the trailer, and the problem in front of you.
Start with the problem, the vehicle or the service you already know you need. Superior handles truck and trailer repair, mobile service, roadside assistance, DOT inspections, alignment, welding and fabrication, heavy equipment, bus and RV work from the Louisville shop.
Trailer Questions.
Dropping a trailer, the annual inspection, reefers, liftgates and what can be done without moving it.
(502) 789-6644Do you repair trailers without the tractor?
Yes. A trailer can be dropped at the Bishop Lane shop in Louisville, or a technician can come to the yard or dock where it sits. The trailer does not need a tractor attached for most work.
Does a trailer need its own annual DOT inspection?
Yes. Each segment of a combination vehicle needs its own annual inspection, so the tractor and the trailer are inspected separately. Superior performs the federal annual on trailers at the shop or at your yard, and repairs what fails in the same visit. See DOT Inspections.
Can you repair a reefer trailer?
Yes, the trailer and the refrigeration unit. Superior handles reefer bodies, doors, floors, brakes and running gear, and services the refrigeration unit itself.
Do you work on liftgates?
Yes. Hydraulics, pump motors, wiring and the frame the gate hangs from, on a trailer or a box truck.
Do you do trailer welding?
Yes. MIG, TIG and stick welding on steel, aluminum and stainless, including cracked crossmembers, torn mounts, frame repair and custom brackets built in house. See Welding & Fabrication.
My trailer will not hold air overnight. What is it?
Usually a gladhand seal, a chafed or cracked air line, or a leaking brake chamber diaphragm. With the system at full pressure and the engine off, the leak can be heard and the leak-down rate watched on the gauges.
What makes landing gear hard to crank?
A stripped or dry gearbox, a twisted cross shaft, or an inner leg that is bent or seized. If only one leg moves, the cross shaft or a coupler has usually let go.
How do I know if a kingpin is worn out?
It gets measured. The shank and head are checked against the wear limits, along with cracks at the base, squareness to the plate, and the condition of the upper coupler around it.
Why are my trailer tires wearing on one edge?
Usually trailer axle alignment. Trailer, tandem and tri-axle alignments set camber, toe and caster back to spec, which is what stops the scrubbing. See Truck & Trailer Alignment.
Can you fix trailer lights and ABS faults?
Yes. Seven-way cords and plugs, corroded grounds, chafed harnesses, marker and stop lamps, and ABS sensors, tone rings and the warning lamp. See Diagnostics & Electrical Repair.
Do you repair flatbeds and dry vans, or just one?
Both, along with reefers. The running gear, air system, lighting and frame work are the same across them, and the box work differs with the trailer.
